About Us
Bilingual, Cooperative Preschool Founded in 1968

Our Mission
Conceived in the spirit of progress following the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., New Horizons’ mission is to operate an independent, non-sectarian cooperative preschool that brings together children and parents from groups traditionally separated down ethnic, economic, and educational lines.
New Horizons adopted our bilingual model in 1990 in response to a community need in Boulder and driven by our families. We have been in the same location since 1970, behind the Friends Meeting House in North Boulder, and renovated our playground in 2013.

Inclusive Community
New Horizons values diversity in culture, class, language, ethnicity, ability, and individual expression, and we believe that people thrive in an environment where each person is honored and respected for their differences and commonalities. This belief is infused into every aspect of the preschool, from the curriculum and daily interactions, to the stories, songs, art projects, and seasonal celebrations including Posada, Lunar/Chinese New Year, Los Días de los Muertos, and El Día Del Niño.

Our Outdoor Space
At New Horizons, children spend more than an hour a day outside, learning, playing, and growing in a space designed for wonder.
🌱 Garden beds and fruit trees spark curiosity.
🐐 Neighboring farm animals offer real-life science and connection.
🚲 Striders and custom bikes encircle on our concrete track.
❄️ And when it snows? Our mini-sledding hill becomes the highlight of the day!
Every inch of our outdoor space is made for joy, discovery, and hands-on learning.
Colorado Shines + Evaluation Results
The success of our decades old model is mirrored in the success of our students. Regardless of income, race, or gender, all New Horizons’ students thrive socially and academically, consistently achieving growth in all developmental areas.
In 2019 and 2022, we earned a Level 4 through Colorado Shines; we are so proud that the quality of our dynamic, inquiry-based, student-driven curriculum, our staff, and our facility was evaluated with such high marks!
